In recovery for eating disorders, I’m sure you’ve heard that eating disorders aren’t actually about food, weight and eating after all.

I mean definitely, yes, on the outside that is how it appears, but when you keep stripping down the layers, getting eating disorders help and challenging yourself, what you find are deeper issues that that are more subtle, more meaningful and profound than you ever thought before.

So what is the eating disorder and recovery for eating disorders really about then?

The eating disorder is really about how we try to control the food, our bodies, our emotions, other people, and life.

Recovery for eating disorders is really about discovering our deepest feelings, emotions, attachments, insecurities, resentments, hurts, anxieties and fears and learning how to process through them in order to grow.

It’s really about how we treat and relate to ourselves, others, and our life.

It’s about feeling worthy and deserving of love and developing deep meaningful relationships with others even if it means we feel vulnerable and exposed.

It’s about falling in love with yourself and seeing yourself as beautiful, inside and out, no matter what your body looks like.

It’s about accepting ourselves for who we are and not worrying about what others think.

It’s about opening up and being able to be assertive, expressing ourselves emotionally and living authentically in this world.

It’s about living our truth and being proud of who we are.

It’s about letting go and learning to forgive ourselves while growing and stretching against your life.

It’s about learning how to let go of perfectionism and love yourself for who you really are inside and out as you evolve and shed all of the layers and illusions of the eating disorder.

Nope, recovery for eating disorders is not about weight or food at all.

Because when we can learn how to love and forgive ourselves and heal on all levels in your recovery for eating disorders – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – it opens up the door to a fulfilling life that has nothing to do with food or weight or the eating disorder.

We can finally move away from the dysfunctional eating disorder patterns and learn how to let go, surrender, trust, and have faith in the process, knowing that it works and that all you have to do is take the next baby step.

We then allow ourselves to move towards living a conscious life of our choosing in our recovery that has everything to do with feeling good, being joyful, peaceful and flowing with life, or fulfilling whatever your vision of recovery for eating disorders might be.

So let’s make this as fun and pain-less as possible, after all, this is YOUR LIFE and YOUR RECOVERY and it should be as joyful and love-filled as ever, especially because it is something as difficult as getting eating disorders help.

Because you will definitely need lots of love and joy and hugs (and maybe a tissue box or two) going through this process!
