Part of recovering from an eating disorder is becoming aware of our thinking.  Most of us who have the eating disorder voice eventually recognize how negative it is!  When I began treatment for bulimia, I was overwhelmed because I realized how destructive my negative thinking was.

I started searching for positive affirmation quotes, eating disorder poems, self love quotes, ANY type of recovery quotes for eating disorders I could get my hands on.  I wanted to fill my mind with very motivational quotes and as many recovery inspirational quotes as I could!

For me, once I started to identify the negative eating disorder thoughts, I could dis-associate and stop identifying with them, but then what was I left with?  I had to change those negative bulimia disorder thoughts and replace them with positive, loving, supportive thoughts and beliefs.

Here are a few of my favorite recovery quotes for eating disorders:

She stands alone, both tall and true

The perfect picture of solitude.

The soul of a woman encased in bark

With limbs that move in a majestic arc.

Alone she’s faced the storms of life

The wind and rain, disease and strife.

Others gave up, but no, not she

And there she stands for all to see.

She’s had her share of troubles and woes

But she made it through and still she grows.

Liker her too, I know grief and pain

I’ve faced the wind, I’ve felt the rain.

And like her too, I still stand tall

Though life may beat me, I will not fall.

It may throw punches, I may take a blow

But in the end I too shall grow.

Each storm I weather increases my strength

And beneath this skin, my soul’s to thank.

The tree and I, we know what to do

We count on ourselves and make it through.

In the infinity of life where I am,

all is perfect, whole and complete.

I believe in a power far greater than I am

that flows through me every moment of every day.

I open myself to the wisdom within,

knowing that there is only One Intelligence in this Universe.

Out of this One Intelligence comes all the answers,

all the solutions, all the healings, all the new creations.

I trust this Power and Intelligence,

knowing that whatever I need to know if revealed to me,

and that whatever I need comes to me

in the right time, space, and sequence.

All is well in my world.

~Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

I have learned to see the world the way it isn’t.

I have done this for my own survival.

I am now interested in much more than survival.

I can see it the way it is.

There is nothing outside myself that can save me.

I have everything I need inside me.

All the love I have been searching for is here within me.

I demand it from others because I am unwilling to give it to myself.

I can give it to myself.

My very nature is love, so there is no need to search for it, no need to work at it..

Love is the only this I need to change.

I am now willing to love myself!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,

we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

~Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

Choosing life is what takes courage.  Never are we more alive or loving than when we get up off the mat and try again, take another risk when the scars of past wounds still lie red and vivid on our souls.  That is life.  That is self-esteem.  Living is the proof of love.  Anyone can die.”
