There are so many inspirational quotes for eating disorder recovery that have helped me along my journey of recovering from bulimia and anorexia.  I have chosen a few helpful healing quotes that may help inspire you if you feel as if you need some motivation towards your recovery.  I love quotes!  Especially quotes on eating disorder recovery, body image quotes, and self love quotes, but I will save those for another post!  Here’s some of my favorite recovery quotes for eating disorders:

“The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anais Nin

We come to a point in our recovery when it is almost painful- and very stressful- to keep on living the way we are living.  We know that if we stay the same and we don’t change, that it is more painful than actually having to grow and learn and change.  Growing is part of the process.

“Healing does not mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” ~Earnie Larsen

We must realize that healing our wounds helps us to move on.  Learning to forgive myself was one of the hardest lessons in my recovery.  We must forgive in order to heal.  But this does not mean we forget, or that the wounds never existed.  It simply means that it no longer has any control over our life and we can let it go.

“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Did you know that wherever you go, you take yourself with you?  We must learn self love and honestly believe that we are beautiful inside and out; we will not find it outside of ourselves.  You are beautiful just the way you are.

“Often, it’s not about becoming a new person, but becoming the person you were meant to be, and already are, but don’t know how to be.” ~Heath L. Buckmaster

Overcoming an eating disorder is one of the hardest things, but also one of the most fulfilling and this is because you are becoming who you truly are.  You are not your eating disorder.  You are not bulimia or anorexia or ednos or any other eating disorder or issue.  We learn when recovering that the eating disorder has controlled us and become our identity.  We must learn how to move through the fear, let go of the old, listen to our inner guidance and become who we are truly meant to be.

“One day at a time- this is enough.  Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone.  And do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come.  Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.” ~Ida Scott Taylor

This was a very motivational quote for me because it just sums up exactly how I wanted to live my life when I was in my bulimia/anorexia.  I hated my past.  I used the eating disorder to escape from the present.  I was afraid for the future.  This quote is so simple and powerful and now this is exactly how I live my life- in the joy of the moment!

“You are a shining example of God’s handiwork, encapsulated in a being so lovely that all of Heaven breathes deeply at the sight of you.” ~Doreen Virtue

Ahh, need I say more?  You are perfect exactly the way you are.  You are a worthy person deserving of self love.  Recovery from eating disorders is possible and my hope for you is that you will believe this about yourself someday.  If you are searching for answers, searching for how to recover from an eating disorder, know that there is hope and that recovery is possible.  You can recover and have an amazing life!

“Change is the essence of life.  Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.”
